Before and after
ESTIMATE
Customer: Arlene Benoit
Vehicle: 2015 Toyota 4Runner 4.0, 112,000 miles
Your concerns: grinding when braking, a sweet smell, and weak heat.
What we found: The front brake pads are worn down to metal and the rotors are scored past the limit. The upper radiator hose is seeping at the clamp and the coolant is low. We believe the leak is the likely source of the sweet smell.
SAFETY CONCERN, RECOMMENDED NOW
- Front brake pads and rotors
Why: The pads are metal to metal and the rotors are too worn. Our technician marked this as a safety concern, and we recommend doing it right away.
- Front pad set: $64.00
- Front rotors, 2 x $78.00: $156.00
- Labor, 1.8 hours x $140.00: $252.00
Subtotal: $472.00
RECOMMENDED NOW
- Upper radiator hose and coolant top-off
Why: The hose is leaking now at the clamp and coolant is low. We recommend replacing the hose and topping off the coolant. Please watch your temperature gauge and do not let the engine run hot.
- Upper radiator hose: $29.00
- Coolant, 1 gallon mix: $22.00
- Labor, 0.7 hours x $140.00: $98.00
Subtotal: $149.00
TOTALS
- Parts: $64.00 + $156.00 + $29.00 + $22.00 = $271.00
- Labor: $252.00 + $98.00 = $350.00
- Shop fee (flat): $18.00
- Sales tax, 7% on parts only ($271.00): $18.97
- Total before credit: $271.00 + $350.00 + $18.00 + $18.97 = $657.97
- Diagnostic fee credit: -$60.00
- Estimated total due: $597.97
If you approve only the brake work: parts $220.00 + labor $252.00 + shop fee $18.00 + tax on parts $15.40 = $505.40, less the $60.00 credit = $445.40. If you approve only the hose work, please ask us for a new figure, since the shop fee and credit would be handled differently.
Terms: This is an estimate and is good for 14 days. Parts and labor carry a 12 month warranty.
QUESTIONS FOR THE OWNER
- Is the $18.00 shop fee charged once per visit even if she approves only one repair? I left the hose-only total out until you confirm.
- Your note said the hose "prob" causes the smell and also mentioned the heater core. The tech notes do not list a heater core problem, so I did not include one. Do you want weak heat addressed in the write-up as something we will recheck after the hose repair?
- Please confirm locally that 7% tax on parts only is correct for this job.
What it does
Takes the technician's diagnosis, your parts list, and your labor rate, and builds a clear, itemized estimate the customer can read and approve. It does the math, flags anything missing, and keeps the wording honest.
Use it when: Use when an auto repair shop needs to turn a technician's diagnosis and a parts list into a written customer estimate, such as "build an estimate," "price this job," "write up a quote for this repair," or "put together the estimate from these notes."
