Mechanic Notes to Customer Explanation
Turns a bike mechanic's shorthand notes into a clear, honest message the customer can understand and trust.
Before and after
Hi Imani, your Cross-Check is ready for pickup. Here is what we found on the three things you brought it in for, plus the results of our full inspection.
Your shifting: The rear derailleur hanger, the small part that holds the derailleur to the frame, was slightly bent, so the gears could not line up properly. Hector straightened it, adjusted the indexing, and installed a new rear shift cable and housing.
Your squealing brakes: The front brake pads were glazed and down to about 1mm of pad left. Hector installed new front pads and cleaned the rotors at no charge. The rear brakes are fine.
Your wobbling rear wheel: Two spokes on the drive side were broken. Hector replaced them and trued the wheel, which means he adjusted it so it spins straight.
Work completed
- Rear shifting repair, new cable and housing: $18 parts + $25 labor = $43
- Front brake pads: $22 parts + $15 labor = $37
- Rear wheel spokes replaced and wheel trued: $30
- Rotor cleaning: no charge
- Total for completed work: $110
Safety concern, recommended now
- Rear tire has three bald spots and cracked tread, which can reduce grip and raise the risk of a flat or blowout. We recommend a new tire: $45 + $10 install = $55
Recommended now
- New chain, since the chain has stretched past the wear limit on our checker and a worn chain wears down the cassette and chainrings faster: $32 + $10 install = $42
Also recommended
- Bar tape is worn. We recommend re-taping for grip and comfort: $28
Total for the recommended items: $55 + $42 + $28 = $125
Checked and good
- Cassette, front tire, headset, and bottle cage bolts
You approved the shifting, brake, and wheel work, and the other items are recommended for you to decide on. If you decline any of them, we will note it as your decision. Questions? Call us at 216-555-0148.
