Before and after

BEFORE · what the owner typed
James Glover here at Finchmont Cycles, 8377 Eastmont St, Hartgate, 319-555-0104. Jacqueline Fuller brought in two bikes for trade. First is a 2015 Salsa Vaya, 56cm, gravel bike. I'd list it at $1,100 once its ready. Condition good, frame clean no dents, chain stretched, tires ok. Second is a 2019 Cleary Hedgehog 16 inch kids bike, I'd list at $120, condition fair, scuffed, tube flat. Our rules: good is 45% of resale, fair is 35%, excellent 55%, poor 20%. 10% extra of the cash offer if they take store credit. If the offer ends up under $25 after deductions we pass. Prices: chain $32, tube $8, tune-up labor $85 on adult bikes, $20 labor on kids bikes. Write it up for her.

Questions for the owner

  • How long should this estimate stay good for the customer?
  • Do you want to offer anything on the kids bike besides a trade-in, such as selling it on consignment? I left that out because it was not in your notes.
  • Do you check serial numbers or ownership before taking a trade-in? I did not mention it because it was not in your notes.

What it does

Turns the bike's make, model, age, and condition, plus your shop's own trade-in rules, into a clear estimate you can give the customer. It shows the math so staff and customers can see how the number was reached. It works for one bike or several.

Use it when: Use when a bike shop needs to work out a trade-in offer from a bike's make, model, age, and condition, such as: what can we offer on this trade-in, price this used bike, estimate a trade-in value, or write the trade-in quote for a customer.
