Holiday and Peak Season Booking Cap Planner
Turns your kennel space, staffing, and booking history into a clear booking cap for each holiday or peak period.
Before and after
Here is the Thanksgiving plan for Juniperwick Pet Lodge.
| Night | Usable spaces | Staff limit | Held back | Cap | Booked | Spots left |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wed Nov 26 | 20 | 24 | 3 | 17 | 17 | 0 |
| Thu Nov 27 | 20 | 24 | 3 | 17 | 19 | -2 |
| Fri Nov 28 | 20 | 16 | 3 | 13 | 12 | 1 |
How we got there: 22 runs minus the 2 out of use (runs 14 and 15) leaves 20. Staff limit is staff on duty times 8 dogs. Wed and Thu have 3 staff (24). Fri has 2 staff (16), based on Bianca not being confirmed. The cap is the lower of the space count and the staff limit, minus the 3 held-back spots (2 regulars, 1 emergency).
Tight nights
- Wed Nov 26 is exactly at the cap. We recommend no new standard bookings for this night.
- Thu Nov 27 is 2 over the cap. Bookings are within your 20 usable spaces, but they use 2 of your 3 held-back spots. We recommend you decide whether those held-back spots stay protected for regulars and emergencies or are released. That choice is yours.
- Fri Nov 28 has 1 spot left under the cap. If Bianca is confirmed for Friday, the staff limit rises to 24, and the cap becomes 17 (limited by the 20 usable spaces minus 3 held back), which gives 5 spots left.
- Large runs: Pharaoh Biscotti, the Xoloitzcuintli, is booked in a large run. We recommend checking the large run count each night before taking more large dogs, since a size group can fill before the total does.
Waitlist message (for full nights):
"Thank you for thinking of us. Our holiday nights are currently full, but we would be glad to add you to our waitlist. Call us at 402-555-0124 and we will reach out if a spot opens."
Full-night message:
"We are fully booked for that night. If other dates work for you, we would be happy to look at them with you. Holiday bookings need a deposit of half the stay."
Questions for the owner
- Is Bianca Foley working Friday Nov 28? This changes Friday's cap.
- How many of your 20 usable runs are large, medium, and small? We could not check size groups without this.
- For Thursday, do you want to keep the 3 held-back spots protected or release some?
What it does
Turns your kennel space, staffing, and booking history into a clear booking cap for each holiday or peak period. It shows how many pets you can take each night, how many spots to hold back, and what to say to customers when you are full.
Use it when: Use when a pet boarding business needs to set booking caps for holidays and peak seasons, such as "how many dogs can I take over Thanksgiving," "set my holiday cap," or "plan my summer bookings."
