Nervous Driver Plan
Turns an instructor's or owner's notes about an anxious student into a lesson-by-lesson plan that starts with what the student can already do and adds one new challenge at a time.
Before and after
Nervous driver plan for Imani Holmes, 5 lessons of 60 minutes each. Fear order: left turns across traffic, merging onto faster roads, parallel parking.
Lesson 1
- Where: Quiet streets near 326 Sagewick St, including Skywick Rd, in the 2017 Ford Fusion, black
- New skill: Right turns and gentle stops at quiet intersections, then a few left turns with no cars coming
- Keep practicing: Smooth starts and stops on quiet streets
- Ready to move on when: Imani makes several left turns on empty streets without hesitating or stopping mid-turn
- If Imani gets overwhelmed: Hector pulls over, lets her take a few slow breaths, and ends the lesson early if she asks
Lesson 2
- Where: Quiet streets with a little more traffic
- New skill: Left turns when one car is far away and she has plenty of time
- Keep practicing: Left turns on empty streets
- Ready to move on when: Imani waits for a safe gap and completes the turn calmly on her own
- If Imani gets overwhelmed: Hector pulls over, talks through the turn, and repeats it from the last easy spot
Lesson 3
- Where: Busier streets with regular traffic
- New skill: Left turns across normal traffic, with Hector calling out gaps at first
- Keep practicing: Choosing a safe gap
- Ready to move on when: Imani picks the gap herself on most turns
- If Imani gets overwhelmed: Hector pulls over, resets in a quiet spot, and goes back to the last left turn she handled well
Lesson 4
- Where: A road with a higher speed limit than the neighborhood streets
- New skill: Merging onto the road and keeping a steady speed
- Keep practicing: Left turns across traffic
- Ready to move on when: Imani matches the speed of traffic and checks mirrors and blind spot without prompting
- If Imani gets overwhelmed: Hector pulls over at the next safe spot and returns to a quieter road
Lesson 5
- Where: Empty lot first, then a quiet street with open curb space
- New skill: Parallel parking, one step at a time
- Keep practicing: Merging and left turns
- Ready to move on when: Imani parks within a few tries and explains each step in her own words
- If Imani gets overwhelmed: Hector stops the maneuver, pulls forward, and starts again from the first step
Message to Ines Hudson and Imani:
Hi Ines and Imani, thank you for choosing Southwick Driving School. Here is the plan Hector built for Imani. We start in places she already handles well, and each lesson adds just one new challenge, beginning with left turns, since that is what worries her most. Every lesson has a clear sign that she is ready for the next step, and if she feels overwhelmed, Hector will pull over and reset. The plan has 5 lessons of 60 minutes, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting at 326 Sagewick St. If you have any questions, call us at 402-555-0136.
Questions for the owner
- What date should Lesson 1 start?
- Do you want to mention the lesson price or the parent's role during lessons?
- Imani's earlier left-turn trouble may take more than the 5 booked lessons to feel comfortable. Do you want to offer extra lessons?
What it does
Turns an instructor's or owner's notes about an anxious student into a lesson-by-lesson plan that starts with what the student can already do and adds one new challenge at a time. It also writes a short, warm message to the student or parent explaining the plan.
Use it when: Use when a driving school owner or instructor needs to turn notes about an anxious or nervous student into a gradual, step-by-step confidence-building lesson plan, such as "make a plan for a nervous student," "she is scared of highways," or "build a slow-start plan for this driver."
