Before and after

BEFORE · what the owner typed
Customer Lana Mahmoud, 4195 Otterleigh St, Otterford, 312-555-0148. Business is Ridgeleigh Garage Doors. She wants a new door, sending stuff by text. She says opening is 16 ft wide. Height she says 7 ft. My tech Leon Nowak went by last week and measured width 15 ft 11 in at the top and 16 ft 1 in at the bottom, height 7 ft 0 in on the left, 7 ft 2 in on the right. Headroom he wrote 11 in. Side room left 5 in, right not written. No backroom number. Photos we have: inside shot of door closed, outside shot of door closed, one of the left top corner showing the track. Nothing on the springs. She mentioned a cable looks frayed on one side and the door feels heavy. Current opener is some old chain drive, no label photo. Send her the checklist. Her mail is going to the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, white, parked in the way so that's why the outside shot is partial.
AFTER · what the skill produced

Hi Lana, this is Ridgeleigh Garage Doors. Here is where we stand on your replacement door quote for 4195 Otterleigh St, Otterford.

What we have

  • Width: you said 16 ft. Leon Nowak measured 15 ft 11 in at the top and 16 ft 1 in at the bottom.
  • Height: you said 7 ft. Leon measured 7 ft 0 in on the left and 7 ft 2 in on the right.
  • Headroom: 11 in
  • Side room: left 5 in
  • Photos: inside view of the door closed, outside view of the door closed (partly blocked by the white 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe), and the top left corner showing the track
  • Current opener: older chain drive, no label photo yet

Ready to quote

  • Headroom
  • Left side room

Still needed

  • Right side room: measure from the edge of the opening to the nearest wall or obstruction on the right, inside the garage, and send us the number.
  • Backroom: measure from the door opening straight back into the garage to the nearest wall or obstruction, and send us the number.
  • Photo of the top right corner from inside, showing the track and the space above it.
  • Photos of both side jambs, from inside.
  • Photo of the spring and cable area from a safe distance. Please do not touch anything there.
  • Photo of the opener and its mount, and of any label on the opener.
  • A clear outside photo of the whole door closed. Please move the vehicle first so the full door shows.

Please recheck

  • Width: the top and bottom readings differ by 2 in. Please measure again at the middle too, and send all three numbers.
  • Height: the left and right readings differ by 2 in. Please measure again on both sides and the middle, and send all three numbers.

Safety note
You mentioned a frayed cable and a heavy-feeling door. Springs and cables are under high tension, so please do not touch, adjust, or try to move them. Please avoid using the door until our tech has looked at it. We will handle it.

Quote status
We can give you a rough quote now from what we have. We recommend a firm quote only after we get the items above, because the right side room, backroom, and the opening size need to be confirmed first.

Questions for the owner

  • What number or way should Lana use to send the photos and numbers back to you? The only number in your notes is hers.
  • What price range, if any, should we give for the rough quote?
  • Is there a visit fee or any charge for the tech to inspect the cable?
  • When can Leon or another tech come by to look at the cable?

What it does

Checks the measurements and photos you already have for a garage door replacement, shows what is missing or unclear, and gives the customer or tech a short list of exactly what to send or check before you quote.

Use it when: Use when a garage door company needs to turn a customer's or tech's rough measurements and photos into a complete checklist for a replacement quote, such as: what do I need to measure, check my measurements, what photos do I still need, or can we quote this door from what we have.
