AFTER · what the skill produced

Class summary
Ages 5 to 7, white and yellow belts, 14 students, 45 minutes. Theme: focus. Skills: front kick, first 4 moves of the white belt form.

Equipment and setup

  • Mats down in the main area
  • 6 hand targets (Mia holds them for kick drills, the rest set on the side)
  • Cones to mark 3 lanes and a start line
  • Jump ropes laid flat on the floor as "lines" for the game
  • Put the two new students near the front, next to a yellow belt buddy

Schedule (45 minutes total)

  1. Line-up and bow-in, 4 minutes. Greet everyone, introduce the two new students by name, and ask the class to show "ready stance." Safety: check that everyone has space to stretch arms out without touching.
  2. Warm-up, 6 minutes. Jog in place, high knees, arm circles, and "freeze" on your whistle or clap to practice focus. Safety: water break after. For Leo, swap any push-up or hands-on-floor moves for standing moves like squats or wall-free leg swings, and follow what his mom told you about his wrist.
  3. Front kick instruction, 8 minutes. Cues: "Knee up, snap out, knee back, foot down." Practice slowly in place with no target first, then in 3 lanes using cones. Safety: one kicker per lane at a time, everyone else waits behind the cone.
  4. Target kicks, 7 minutes. Mia and you each hold targets while kids take turns, 3 kicks each, then rotate. Cue: "Eyes on the target." Safety: holder keeps targets low and still, arms braced. Keep contact light for this age.
  5. Water break and quick reset, 2 minutes.
  6. Form practice, 8 minutes. Teach moves 1 to 4 of the white belt form one at a time, then link them. Cue: "Say the move out loud, then do it." Have yellow belts show first, then new students follow. Safety: space kids an arm and a leg apart.
  7. Game: "Freeze Lines," 6 minutes. Kids move along the jump rope lines doing kicks and form moves. When you clap, everyone freezes in ready stance. The last few to freeze do 3 slow knee lifts, then rejoin right away so nobody sits out. Safety: walking speed only.
  8. Character moment, 2 minutes. Sit in a circle. Ask: "What helps you focus when something is hard?" Let 3 or 4 kids answer. Tie it back to listening for the clap.
  9. Cool-down and bow-out, 2 minutes. Slow breathing, 3 deep breaths, a light stretch, and bow-out. Give each new student a quick positive word.

Total: 4 + 6 + 8 + 7 + 2 + 8 + 6 + 2 + 2 = 45 minutes.

Backup ideas

  • If kids lose steam on the front kick, switch to "kick the balloon" height cues using the hand targets held at different heights, or let kids pick which lane to go to.
  • If the game gets too wild, have kids do it in slow motion, like "robot mode."

Notes for after class

  • Watch whether the two new students can do the front kick without losing balance. Repeat the first 4 form moves next class before adding more.
  • Check in with Leo's mom after class about his wrist before the next class.
  • Please confirm your own supervision ratio, waiver, and insurance requirements locally. This plan does not cover them.

What it does

Builds a timed, ready-to-teach lesson plan for one kids class, matched to the age group, rank, class length, and skills you want to cover. Gives you a warm-up, skill work, games, a character lesson, and a cool-down, with a list of equipment and safety notes.

Use it when: Use when a martial arts school owner or instructor needs a kids class lesson plan built for a specific age group, such as "plan my 5 to 7 year old class," "build a lesson plan for tomorrow's kids class," "I need drills for my teen beginners," or "what should I teach the little dragons this week."
