Class Progress Notes to Parent Update
Turns an instructor's quick, messy class notes into a warm, honest update a parent can read in a minute.
Before and after
Hi Laura,
Here is a quick update on Kurt Berg from this month. He is a 9 year old orange belt, and he is doing well.
What is going well
Kurt's front kick has improved a lot. His balance is good, and he now lifts his knee high before he kicks. Last Thursday he also helped a new white belt find the right stance, which was a great moment to see.
What we are working on
Kurt is rushing his kata (the set pattern of moves we practice). He skips the pause before the last move. We are working on slowing down so each move is clean. He also gets distracted when partner drills get loud, so we have moved him near the front of the class, and that has helped.
Attendance and effort
Kurt came to 11 of 12 classes this month. Thank you for getting him here.
A note on his wrist
Kurt told us he bruised his wrist in a fall at home, and he sat out the pad drills for one class. He was fine after. If it keeps bothering him, we recommend having his doctor take a look.
At home
We recommend Kurt practice his kata slowly, with the pause before the last move.

Questions for the owner
- Do you want to add a belt test date once it is set?
What it does
Turns an instructor's quick, messy class notes into a warm, honest update a parent can read in a minute. Works for one student or a whole batch, and for a few weeks of notes or a full belt cycle.
Use it when: Use when a martial arts school needs to turn an instructor's class notes, belt test results, or skill checklists into a clear update for a student's parent, such as: write a progress update for this parent, tell the parent how their kid is doing, or turn these notes into a parent email.
