Paint Sheen and Product Recommendation by Room
Turns a painter's room-by-room notes into a clear written recommendation of which sheen and type of paint to use in each space and on each surface, with a plain reason for each choice.
Before and after
Hi Bethany Cole,
Here is our paint plan for 7684 Windvale Rd in Snowhill. We will be using the Duraloft interior line, which comes in flat, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss.
Living room walls: We recommend eggshell, though you asked for flat. Flat hides the dings well, but with that big sunny window we think eggshell gives you a bit more wipeability while still looking soft. If you prefer flat, that is your choice, and we will paint it that way.
Living room ceiling: We recommend flat. It hides small flaws and keeps glare down. The old paint is clean, so we expect no special prep beyond normal cleaning.
Kitchen walls: We recommend satin. Because you cook a lot and there was grease near the stove, we want a finish you can wipe down. We will clean the greasy area well before painting.
Kitchen cabinets: We recommend semi-gloss in a cabinet or trim enamel, with sanding and primer first. The oak is stained and you want white, so the prep matters here. Semi-gloss stands up to hands and cleaning.
Hallway: We recommend satin. With kids and Pomegranate running through, scuffs are going to happen, and satin wipes clean better than flat or eggshell.
Main bath: We recommend satin, or semi-gloss if you want the most scrubbable surface. Because the room has steam and the fan does not work, we recommend a moisture-resistant product. The old paint peeling above the shower needs to be scraped and primed first, and we recommend having the fan looked at by a qualified person, since we cannot advise on that.
Trim and doors: We recommend semi-gloss throughout. It is tough, easy to clean, and will freshen the yellowed look. We will clean and prime where needed.

Questions for the owner
- What price should be included for this plan?
- Is the main bath a satin or semi-gloss choice, and should the Duraloft line's moisture-resistant option be named?
- What is the start date?
- Should we confirm the cabinet enamel product from the Duraloft line, since the notes list only interior sheens?

What it does
Turns a painter's room-by-room notes into a clear written recommendation of which sheen and type of paint to use in each space and on each surface, with a plain reason for each choice. The customer gets something they can read and approve.
Use it when: Use when a painter needs to recommend paint sheen and product type for each room or surface in a job, such as "what sheen should I use in the kitchen," "write up paint recommendations for this quote," or "which finish goes where for this customer."
