Lost or Escaped Pet Emergency Response Script
Turns the facts of a pet escape into three things: a calm first call script for the pet's owner, a short search action list for the driver, and a written follow-up message.
Before and after
1. First call script (Rhea to Sabrina Carey, 206-555-0133)
"Hi Sabrina, this is Rhea Atkins with Timberbank Pet Taxi. I'm calling right away because Pickle got away from our driver, Roland Bennett, at about 9:40 this morning while he was being loaded into our car at the pickup at 4431 Swanbank Rd. He slipped out of his harness and ran toward Valebank Ave. Roland lost sight of him near 4810 Valebank Ave. Roland is still there and is searching calmly, and I'm on the phone with you so we can work on this together. I know this is upsetting, and I'm sorry. Can you tell me if Pickle comes to his name, where he likes to go, and who he might approach? We were told he is shy with strangers, so we will not chase him. Do you have his microchip number?"
2. Driver action list (Roland Bennett)
- Stay near 4810 Valebank Ave, the last place Pickle was seen.
- Secure the white 2008 Hyundai Elantra with the doors closed so no other pet can get out.
- Search the nearby area quietly and slowly. We recommend not chasing Pickle, since he is shy with strangers.
- Ask neighbors and nearby businesses on Valebank Ave to watch for a brindle Plott hound mix in a red harness with a brass tag, and give them the shop number, 206-555-0132.
- Call Rhea with any sighting right away.
3. Calls to make
- Local animal control or shelter in Heronbank
- Nearby veterinary clinics
- The microchip registry, once Sabrina gives the chip number
We recommend confirming the right numbers and reporting steps locally before calling.
4. Follow-up message (text to Sabrina Carey)
"Hi Sabrina, this is Rhea at Timberbank Pet Taxi. Pickle slipped his harness at about 9:40 this morning at 4431 Swanbank Rd and ran toward Valebank Ave. Roland Bennett is searching near 4810 Valebank Ave and we are contacting local animal control and vet clinics. Please call us at 206-555-0132 if you hear anything or want to add details. We are sorry this happened and we will keep working with you on it."
Questions for the owner
- Does Sabrina have Pickle's microchip number?
- When should the next update to Sabrina be promised?
- Does the shop want to state a policy on search help, costs, or responsibility? Please also confirm with your insurer or a licensed professional before discussing liability.
What it does
Turns the facts of a pet escape into three things: a calm first call script for the pet's owner, a short search action list for the driver, and a written follow-up message. It keeps the message honest, specific, and free of excuses or guesses.
Use it when: Use when a pet taxi driver or owner needs a script and action plan because a pet escaped or went missing during a pickup, ride, or drop-off, such as: a dog got out of the van, the cat bolted at the door, we lost a pet, or write what to say to the pet's owner.
