Route Hauling and Disposal Cost Tracker
Takes the owner's messy notes on dump fees, bag costs, fuel, and drive time, and turns them into a cost per route, cost per stop, and a comparison against what each route earns.
Before and after
Cost split used: shared north/east trips split by stops (42 and 35, so 42 of 77 stops for North and 35 of 77 for East). Liners split by stops across all 95 stops (42 + 35 + 18).
Math check
- Trip fees: North/East shared, 4 trips x 12 = 48.00. North share 42/77 = 26.18, East share 21.82. Lakeside, 4 trips x 12 = 48.00.
- Liners: 54.00 / 95 stops = 0.5684 per stop. North 23.87, East 19.89, Lakeside 10.23.
- Fuel: North/East shared, 14 miles x 4 trips = 56 miles, 56 / 20 = 2.8 gallons x 3.50 = 9.80. North 5.35, East 4.45. Lakeside, 22 x 4 = 88 miles, 88 / 20 = 4.4 gallons x 3.50 = 15.40.
- Labor: North/East shared, 40 min x 4 = 160 min = 2.67 hours x 18 = 48.00. North 26.18, East 21.82. Lakeside, 55 min x 4 = 220 min = 3.67 hours x 18 = 66.00.

Ranking, highest cost share first
- Lakeside, 17% of income
- North, 4% of income
- East, 4% of income
What stands out: Lakeside costs about four times as much per stop as North or East to haul and dump, because it gets its own trip every week for only 18 stops.
Options to consider
- We could add Lakeside waste to the north/east trip when the driving order allows, which would remove most of the separate trip cost. Check whether the extra distance and time really save money.
- We could dump Lakeside every other week if the bags and storage allow it. Confirm with the transfer station that holding waste that long is allowed.
- We could look at Lakeside pricing, or add more stops nearby to spread the trip cost.
Please confirm
- Whether 12 per trip is a flat fee or changes with weight. Confirm current fees and accepted waste with your local transfer station.
- The 18 dollar hourly rate is the figure you chose for your own time, not a payroll number. Ask your accountant how to treat mileage and labor for taxes.
- Hauling here covers only the trip from the last stop to the dump. Drive time between stops is not included.
What it does
Takes the owner's messy notes on dump fees, bag costs, fuel, and drive time, and turns them into a cost per route, cost per stop, and a comparison against what each route earns. It shows which routes make money and which ones need a price change or a tighter schedule.
Use it when: Use when a pet waste removal business wants to work out what hauling and disposal cost each route, such as "what does this route cost me to dump," "track my dump fees by route," "which route is losing money," or "add up my disposal costs for the month."
