AFTER · what the skill produced

Hi Damon Burnett,

Thanks for bringing in your laptop and your phone. Here is what we found on each, starting with the problems you told us about.

Your laptop (the silver Zentari Vireo 14)

Running slow: The storage drive (the SSD) is failing. Our test shows a high number of damaged areas on it, which is a common cause of slowdowns and random shut-offs. We also found three adware programs and a browser hijacker slowing things down, and we removed them.

Loud fan and shutting off: The fan was full of dust. We cleaned it, and temperatures are now fine under load.

Your files: We backed up your user folders to our external drive, 41 GB in total, and checked that the files open correctly.

Recommended now

  • Replace the failing SSD with a new 500GB drive, since the current one is failing. Because a failing drive cannot be copied reliably, we would reinstall Windows and restore your files from the backup. The new SSD comes with a 1 year warranty.

Also recommended

  • Six Windows updates were pending. We installed them.

Checked and good

  • Memory (RAM) passed testing, and battery health is good.

Your phone

Not charging: The charge port was packed with lint. We cleaned it, and it now charges normally. There is no charge for this cleaning.

Safety concern, recommended now

  • The battery looks swollen and the back cover is lifting slightly. Our technician marked this as a safety concern, and we recommend replacing the battery.

Also recommended

  • There is a crack in the corner of the screen. Touch works fine, and the notes show it is not spreading. We recommend a screen repair.

Checked and good

  • Speakers and cameras tested good.

Already done

  • Dust cleaning and malware removal on the laptop: 60.00

Needs your decision

  • Laptop SSD replacement: SSD 89.00 plus labor 95.00 = 184.00
  • Phone battery replacement (labor included): 54.00

Total of everything above, if you approve all of it: 60.00 + 184.00 + 54.00 = 298.00
Total of the two recommended repairs only: 184.00 + 54.00 = 238.00

Your devices will be ready for pickup after 5 tomorrow. Let us know which items you would like us to go ahead with, and we will record your decision on the repair order.
