Photo Session Prep Guide
Turns your session details and your own preferences into a clear, friendly prep guide the client can read before their shoot.
Before and after
Hi Arthur and family,
We are excited to photograph your family this Saturday! Here is everything you need to get ready.
The details
- Session: Family portraits with all of you, including Mr. Biscuitwhistle
- Date and time: Saturday at 4:30pm, running about 90 minutes
- Meet at: the gazebo at Ashdale Park, 7123 Windcroft Ave, Juniperbury
- Parking: the lot behind the library on the east side
What to wear
We recommend soft, solid colors such as cream, sage, and dusty blue. Please skip neon colors, big logos, and tiny stripes. Solid colors keep the focus on your faces and your family.
What to bring
- A light jacket for each of the kids
- A favorite blanket
- Treats for Mr. Biscuitwhistle
How to get ready
Please give Benny Lane and Bethany a snack before the session. If Bethany usually naps, we recommend she gets her nap before we start.
Good to know
- If it rains, we will move the session to Sunday at the same time.
- If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may have to shorten the session.
- Your gallery will be ready in 2 weeks.

Questions for the owner
- Should I name the wife in the guide? You did not give her name, so I wrote "your wife" nowhere and addressed the message to Arthur and family.
- Is the Sunday rain date confirmed with the client, or should the guide ask them to reply to confirm?
- Do you want to add what the client should do about payment, or any other balance due before the session?
- Please confirm any permit or location rules for Ashdale Park with the property or local authority. I did not state any in the guide.
What it does
Turns your session details and your own preferences into a clear, friendly prep guide the client can read before their shoot. It covers where and when to arrive, what to wear, who is coming, and what to bring, so the session runs smoothly.
Use it when: Use when a photographer needs to write a session prep guide for a client before a portrait, family, headshot, newborn, or event shoot, such as: write a prep guide, what should my client wear, send the client info for Saturday's session, or get them ready for their shoot.
