AFTER · what the skill produced

Hi Sally,

Thanks for bringing in your Outback. Ryan Green checked all four tires. Here is what the numbers mean. Tread depth is measured in 32nds of an inch, and it tells us how deep the grooves are. Those grooves move water out from under the tire and help it grip the road. We checked 4 tires: 2 are a safety concern, 1 is also recommended, and 1 is in good shape.

Safety concern, recommended now

  • Right rear: lowest reading is 2/32, and Ryan found a nail in the tread near the center. This tire is below our safety concern line of 3/32, so it has much less grip in the rain and needs longer to stop. The nail also needs to be inspected. We recommend replacing this tire.
  • Right front: lowest reading is 3/32 on the inside edge. That is at our safety concern line, so we recommend replacing it.

Also recommended

  • Left rear: reads 4/32 across the tread. That is at our replacement line, so we recommend replacing it.
  • Alignment check: the inside edges of your front tires are wearing more than the outside edges (right front reads 3 inside and 7 outside). Ryan recommends an alignment check so new tires do not wear the same way.
  • Replacing all four tires together: Ryan recommends replacing all four at the same time because your Outback is all-wheel drive.

Checked and good

  • Left front: lowest reading is 5/32, which is above our replacement line.

If you would like to schedule this, call us at 312-555-0110 or stop by Oakland Tire & Wheel at 7593 Lockland Ave, Clayford. The choice is yours, and we are happy to answer any questions first.

Questions for the owner

  • What tire brand, size, and price should we quote for the replacements?
  • Is there an appointment time or opening to offer Sally?
  • After inspection, can the nail in the right rear be repaired, or does that tire need to be replaced?
  • What is the price of the alignment check?

What it does

Takes the tread depth numbers and notes from a tire check and turns them into a clear, honest message the customer can understand. It explains what each tire's reading means for grip, braking, and safety, using the shop's own replacement guidelines.

Use it when: Use when a tire shop needs to turn tread depth readings and tech notes into plain-English safety advice for the customer, such as 'explain these tread numbers', 'write up the tire check for the customer', or 'tell them what the 3/32 means'.
