Session Notes to Parent Update
Turns a tutor's quick, messy session notes into a friendly, clear update a parent can read in a minute.
Before and after
Hi Wanda,
Here is a quick update on Yara's math session with Warren on Tuesday, March 4.
What we worked on
- Long division with two-digit divisors. On the warm-up sheet, Yara got 7 of 10 right.
- Adding fractions that have the same denominator (the same number on the bottom).
What went well
- Yara got all 10 of 10 on adding fractions with the same denominator.
- She asked good questions during the session and stayed with the work, even though she seemed tired and was rubbing her eyes.
What is still tricky
- In long division, Yara keeps forgetting to bring down the next digit. When Warren points to it, she gets it, so we see this as a habit still being built.
- We have not started adding fractions with different denominators yet.
What we recommend next
- We recommend Yara complete the one page of long division homework, due next Tuesday. Practice on this will help the bring-down step become automatic.
What we need from you
- Please sign the progress form that Warren sent home in Yara's folder.
Next session
- Thursday, March 6 at 4:30.
If you have any questions, you can reach us at 216-555-0172.

Questions for the owner
- Is there a fee for the extra session on Thursday, March 6? Warren's notes say he does not know, so it was left out of the message.
What it does
Turns a tutor's quick, messy session notes into a friendly, clear update a parent can read in a minute. It covers what the student worked on, what went well, what is still hard, what we recommend next, and anything we need from the parent.
Use it when: Use when a tutoring business needs to turn a tutor's rough session notes into a clear, honest update for a parent, such as: write up the session for the parent, send mom an update, or turn these notes into a progress message.
